2011 Festival Line-up
Born June 26, 1995, Reema Major is living out her dream as a multi-talented artist and the self proclaimed “Illest Kid” and “Mother to the New School Era.” Reema is definitely a force to be reckoned with in hip hop today. Reema speaks Arabic, Sudanese Tribal Tongue, as well as English and these colorful languages and cultures inspire her music, fashion and love of life. Reema’s music is a reflection of her personal experiences and not of others around her. Since being discovered on Myspace by Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Programming, Talent and Specials, and being invited to participate in the 2010 BET Hip Hop Awards cypher, Reema continues to prove how talented she is amongst hip hop veterans, globally, despite her age.
Her style, lyrical content and focus stems from her upbringing in an Arabic household and exposure to situations that most people her age never endure. Born in Khartoum, Sudan as the youngest of seven, Reema’s family fled Sudan to escape the coup taking refuge in Kenya and Uganda, before making Canada home in 1998. In Canada, Reema was first introduced to music and hip hop at the early age of 5 by her cousin, who she witnessed engage in cyphers on the steps of their apartment building. At the time, Reema wasn’t aware that she was witnessing her destiny and that her love for writing would eventually be the catalyst to her becoming a rapper.
After leaving Canada for Kansas City, Reema made her way back in 2009 to visit her mother for the Christmas holiday. This unique visit led to her chance meeting with Kwajo Cinqo, member of Canada’s legendary hip-hop group Ghetto Concept and President of G7 Records. “From the moment I met her I knew that she was destined to be a superstar,” Kwajo says. “I feel she is the hottest female in the game and she is young in age, but has a wise soul!” This destined-to-be meeting led to her signing with G7 Records, with the promise that within a year she would be promoted, marketed and signed to a major record label. Kwajo made true to his promise with Reema and after a bidding war with other labels, including Gene Simmons’ label, Reema signed to a joint venture with Universal Music Canada and Interscope Records (USA) in 2010. Joint record label ventures are rare, but it was made possible because of the support from Randy Lennox at Universal Music Canada and Martin Kierszenbaum and Andrea Ruffalo from Cherrytree Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. Kierszenbaum and Ruffalo are the duo responsible for breaking such acts as Lady Gaga, Sting, LMFAO and Far East Movement.
Working with G7 Records/Universal/Interscope as her home label, Reema has had access to some of the best guidance and resources any label could offer. With a powerful team behind her, Reema Major is sure to break boundaries with her music. Her first single “Gucci Bag” was released to an online audience in October 2009 introducing her to the public. Due to the large demand and positive feedback, Reema released her first mixtape “Youngest in Charge” in January 2010 to an online audience as well. Her second street single “Arabic Princess” off her mixtape followed shortly and it has helped Reema break through a young audience. Reema continues to prove that her skills are well beyond her years. Her sound is versatile, and it depicts her worldly outlook on life. Unlike many artists her age, her music is a reflection of her personal experiences and her vast cultural exposure, a quality that contributes to her edgy lyrics and style.
With the release of her hit single “Ghetto Kids” and “Father” on her third mixtape, “I Am Legend” available on May 27th, Reema has no plans of slowing down this year. She has worked with some of today’s top producers including: The Stereotypes, Bangledesh and DJ Toomp. The world is definitely limitless to this soon to be LEGEND, especially with her family and God by her side. Keep God First is Reema’s daily mantra that has been passed down to her by her best friend and number one fan, her mother. When asked about her future, Reema replied, “I want to be remembered as one of the best female rappers ever.”

The record was produced by acclaimed Cuban pianist and Interactive Project veteran Roberto Carcasses. As a rapper, Telmary set out to proclaim a positive, empowering message to contrast the genre’s confrontational, divisive, and commercial norm. Featuring a cast of modern-day Cuban stars like rapper Kumar, producer Athanai, and songwriter William Vivanco, A Diario was quickly heralded as one of the decade’s most thoughtful and creative Cuban hip-hop records. The project was well received by audiences worldwide, appearing on charts throughout Latin America and Europe. Though not well traveled on U.S. soil, Telmary has graced stages all over Europe, South America, and Japan at some of the world’s most renown jazz and popular music festivals.
I have been really interested in making music for about over a two years now. While on house arrest and completing high school I discovered my talent in something I have a passion for. I write my own music everyday based on my emotions, what’s going on around me and my past experiences. I grew up in the Rexdale community in Mount Olive from birth until the age of 11, when my father and uncle were shot and killed at the same time. I entered Breaking The Cycle to change my life and to talk to people about my problems because that was something that was really hard for me. At this point I have changed my life around and I’m doing a lot of positive things and stopping the negative. I want to do it for my father to make him proud that I came out to be the star he saw from day one. Besides music, I want to go back to college and take an engineering or radio broadcasting course. I have a lot of dreams that I’m going to
make sure becomes reality.

2010 Line-up
Ghetto Concept/G7 Allstars
After listening to two-time Juno award winning rappers’ (Kwajo “Cinqo” and “Dolo”) tight, “street reality” based rhymes and punchy hooks, one would never guess that Ghetto Concept spent their formative years competing at local rap-off contests at community centres and ciphering in basement parties. Representing Rexdale and Jungle for the last decade in a fickle Canadian urban music industry would probably bring most emcee’s ambitions to a grinding halt. But not Ghetto Concept (GC). With a firm do-it-yourself ethic in place, GC formed 7 Bill$ Entertainment in 1996 releasing the seminal club tune “Krazy World” (which earned them a Canadian Urban Music Award and Juno nomination)…and they haven’t looked back since. The moniker “7 Bill$” was devised by GC to represent the fact that in their quest for nationwide rap domination they are ultimately seeking to earn monies in the seven figures to help uplift their families and communities out of the struggle. When GC released the critically acclaimed self-titled debut album in 1998 everyone took notice. What would compel a multi-platinum recording artist (Onyx’s Sticky Fingaz) to spit fiery rhymes on their remix to “Precious Metals”? Well, it certainly wasn’t the money. Straight up, GC’s street credibility has always made them stand out from the crowd.
Kim Davis
The music speaks for itself, as the voice of Kim Davis captivates with its raw, uninhibited strength. With her unique talent and signature vocal abilities, it is no wonder why Kim is the most anticipated and celebrated artist coming out of Toronto, Canada. This South African, Canadian raised woman is a force to be reckoned with, being a multi-faceted artist vocally, lyrically and musically. After witnessing the murder of her husband, whom she was married to at the early age of 19, Kim realized how short life is. Thus, she began to regain control of her life, not only for her own personal well-being, but also for the happiness of her two children. She found herself facing many personal challenges; experiencing a sense of loss and abandonment. Writing became her therapy, as it was an outlet for her to express her feelings, take out her anger, and overcome her fears. It was from her journals she was able to incorporate all these feelings into song, her personal message being that of self-love and becoming a voice of survival for every person who has suffered like herself. It is through these songs we are truly able to see who the real Kim Davis is and we are able to share her struggle, interpret her pain and relate to her overall. Kim Davis emerged onto the Canadian music scene as a writer sharing her talent with other artists within the city. She also became well known for performing as a background singer for some of Canada’s top artists and also touring with 5-time Grammy award winning John Legend as well as former Warner recording artist Esthero. In late 2005, Kim was introduced to Dre Knight, a producer from The Narcotics (“Make Her Feel Good rmx.” Teairra Mari, Kanye West, “What Ya Want” LL Cool J, Freeway) – a production team based in New York. After recording three songs with Knight, the producer was adamant of who his breakout artist would be. Kim began to work day in, day out with Incline Records production team “The Narcotics” in the summer of 2006. With the musical direction of Dre Knight combined with the outstanding talents of Kim Davis, ” Live, Love, Learn” was born and “Hush” was the first smash record to hit radio airwaves in Canada, the U.S., and the UK. Through her first record released, Ms. Davis had made quite an impression with a few entourages of music execs and producers based in the States who would then assist in launching and developing her career as a forefront solo artist and writer. Currently with two radio hits under her belt (“Hush” feat. Sizzla and “Sometimes”), a single off of VP Records compilation album Strictly The Best Vol. 38 (“Hush” feat. Sizzla), major label record placements as a writer (Bayje, Atlantic Records), performances in some of North America’s biggest shows and venues (NYC’s SummerJam @ Giant’s Stadium, S.O.B.’s, Jacob Javitts Center), and 1 spots on numerous radio countdowns are just a few of the accomplishments in under a year.
Black Sage (Co-Host)
Originally from the West-end of Toronto, Black Sage is the newest sensation hailing from Toronto. Black Sage has always had a passion for music. The unveiling of “Da Odyssey vol.1” was not only to create public awareness, but to address issues that not only affected him but his community as a whole. The release of the Odyssey that had already introduced the two singles “You don’t know me” and “Shine” by Black Sage was greatly received by the public. Black Sages’ music has also proven to have a global appeal with the response which was received from the European market in key countries such as Germany and Austria.
MC Crazy Chris (Co-Host)
In most cases “Crazy” can be used to describe an unstable individual that doesn’t necessarily have their head firmly planted on their shoulders however, this isn’t the case for the ambitious and outgoing club MC Christopher Mackenzie – better known as Crazy Chris. Starting with high school parties and the popular “basement jams” of the 1990s, a young Chris has been wowing the crowds and injecting excitement into event goers for over a decade. “Crazy Chris” can be considered an alter ego for this naturally soft spoken and humble individual who transforms into one of Toronto’s liveliest and most energetic MCs. With his recognizable and boisterous scream, Crazy Chris is sure to command the attention of crowds as small as 100 to over a thousand guests at any given event. Recognizing his love of entertaining Chris decided to take his emceeing further and became 1/3 of Toronto’s renowned “Legacy Sound crew” with fellow high school friends Dj Charlie Brown and Dj Rory. You can say he was the voice behind the music. Not just subjected to the entertainment industry of Toronto, his voice continues to travel distances. Touring such places as Jamaica, Cayman Islands and frequently visiting one the U.S.’s staple event capitals South Beach Miami. Over the years, hard-work and good fortune have allowed him to host the likes of celebrities such as Rick Ross, Fabolous, T-Pain, Keri Hilson, 112, Mc Lyte, Nicki Minaj, basketball phenomenon Lebron James and even Toronto’s own Drake. His popular demand has given him the opportunity to work alongside other Djs such as Fat Man Scoop, Dj Power, Dj Enuff and Dj Envy to name a few. Often told by those surrounding him it was inevitable that Crazy Chris would become an event host, it was the only way for him to be the life of the party, build relationships and show his love for music. With goals of becoming a radio personality and even indulging in the spotlights of television he has already started to the lay his foundation. A mix of passion and an undying pursuit to leave his staple in the entertainment industry, there will be no stopping for him. “I want to be able to be the reason for positive outcome or a change of heart. I strongly believe that I’m here to do my part in making someone’s day. For this reason, I will continue to entertain.” Although a smile can convey a heartfelt message, Chris prefers to use his voice to continue warming the hearts of many.

Jean Paul
Jean Paul’s comedy is culled from his cultural crazy quilt of a childhood – born in Trinidad, raised in Brooklyn and currently residing in Toronto.
“Savage wit and spontaneous combustion combine into an explosive comedic barrage. This cat is fearless. In terms of any kind of act, he works without a net. He is so freewheeling it’s almost psychedelic.”
- Daryl Jung,
NOW Magazine, Toronto
This in itself explains his kaleidoscope of accents. He’s funked up, has a twinkle in his eyes and is deadly articulate. Feeding off the vibe of a room makes his performances electrifying. Says Jean Paul, “I was always into comedy, even as a kid. I found it fascinating. Some of my friends were into model car kits. I was into Richard Pryor, George Carlin and Bill Cosby.”

Aria
Everyone talks about it, everyone knows about it… stage presence and this lady has got it! Engaging her audiences with her tranquil melodies and conviction, the imaginative singer songwriter Aria demonstrates her fearless capabilities all through out her music starting from the early age of seven. Coming from a Jamaican and Scottish background it is without question she has a “flav” all her own and is definitely not afraid to let you know exactly what is on her mind. Like most artists she dreams of traveling the world but the difference here is that she has actually began making that dream her reality. Singing and performing in Hong Kong for eight months then later Santa Lucia Cuba and Macau China, ask all who know her and they will tell you Aria lives by the power of the mind combined with the guidance of the heart and emphasis anything IS possible. Starting off in a four part female group Aria and the three young ladies went by the name Shades of Brown. Shortly after she became a part of a duo with her older sister and was known as Avenu creating music with the same camp as Rochester Juice, Tone Mason. Although the ladies made phenomenal music together scheduling made music harder and harder to create. It was at this time that Aria would really discover her own sound and open the doors of standing on her own two feet. Many have asked and now it is time to address the topic at hand… her sound. It is non mistakable, there is no other, Ms.Aria Muzik has such a unique voice you hear it once and you just know “oh okay… that’s Aria.” The industry today is fixated on marketing and labeling but Aria’s music cannot so easily be categorized. It reflects Reggae, R&B, Blues, Funk, Rock, Pop but soul is inevitably where it comes from so she prefers to call it just that, Soul. An undeniable leader we have got to give credit to her parents who are not surprisingly musically inclined as well. Her father Derek Graham plays acoustic and electric guitar and her mother is also a passionate vocalist. “ I create music to help heal and free up not just myself but all those who hear me, all those who feel me” states Aria and as she continues to create songs about freedom, growth and change she only asks that you too aspire to rise higher. One love. Listen out for the mix cd and album coming this fall.

Mayoori
Mayoori is considered the first R&B singer/songwriter of Tamil descent to enter the Toronto music scene. Being a first generation Tamil Canadian made her artistic development challenging at first, as she faced criticism from some for her “unconventional” style. Despite these obstacles, Mayoori persevered, accepting her uniqueness as a valuable asset. Gracing several stages since 2002, Mayoori started by singing covers of some of her favourite artists such as Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys and India Arie, and has more recently started writing original songs that speak from the heart. Breaking down barriers and stereotypes, Mayoori is using her music as an outlet to express herself, motivate others and inspire her listeners, especially young females. Many will recognize her from her several collaborations with Rexdale hip hop group Meditating Minds Entertainment and east end hip hop group Little Empire. Mayoori also balances her passion for music with her educational ambitions and is determined to use both avenues to make a positive difference. The future looks promising for Mayoori as she continues to build her music and prepares to establish her position in the music industry.
Church
“Church is a complete MC which possesses all credentials that hip-hop legends are made of. Lyricism, Diversity, Great Flow, Raw Freestyle Skills, Creativity, Street Cred, & SWAG. These have proven to be the ingredients that make legendary MCs. Growing up in a Cooperative housing unit in Toronto, Church was known for his freestyle / battling abilities. He knew that one day he’d expose his creative song writing ability to the world by recording tracks. However, being caught up in the hustle to make ends meet led to rap becoming a hobby, not a priority. In late 2008, the same hustle led to a tragic incident which left him fighting for his life, but he defied the odds by making a complete recovery to the surprise of even his doctors. Church returned to the scene and after finding out the hard way that tomorrow isn’t always promised, he knew it was time for a change. After making a recovery, he was then reached out to by a childhood friend who shared the same musical and business interests. The love and support has been incredible since the release of some recorded material, and there is no doubt that this is what Church was built for. This is also bigger than just one artist, this plan is to unite Toronto talent and make it a prominent Hip-Hop spot. Now that the goals are set, there’s no looking back..”
